When and Where Schedule

 

They may seem like half-assed parades, but the little band makes a lot of noise, enough to turn beer into energy. Look for the ones that start off from Ipanema, Leblon and Santa Tereza.

FRIDAY, 12/02

BIP BIP
Where everyone ends up going to when night falls. It is a great frolic mess that begins at Almirante Gonçalves in Copacabana exactly the first minute past midnight.

BLOCO DAS CARMELITAS
The Schedule is a well kept secret, but usually they gather around two o’clock at evening. Be sure to be at the corner of Rua Dias de Barros and Ladeira Santa Teresa around four so you won´t miss the party. They head down towards the Largo dos Guimarães in Santa Teresa.

CONCENTRA MAS NÃO SAI
They stay at Rua Ipiranga in Laranjeiras as of eight at night. A cluster of many partiers that do not leave the spot and enjoy the night in carnival happiness.

ROLA PREGUIÇOSA
Gathering begins at 6PM at the corner of Av. Epitácio Pessoa and Rua Maria Quitéria at Lagoa. It heads to Ipanema and goes through Rua Farme de Amoedo.

BAILE NO TRAPICHE DA GAMBOA
The party is led by the Singer Moyséis Marques at Trapiche Gamboa (Rua Sacadura Cabral, 155, Gamboa) It starts at eleven at night and its a sure pick (Tel.: 2516-0868. R$ 30)

SATURDAY, 13/02

BANDA DE IPANEMA
Do not miss as the jolly Transvestites and Drag Queens that parade at Ipanema. The gathering begins at three in the afternoon at the corner of Rua Teixeira de Melo and Praça Gal. Osório. You can still find them at Rua Farme de Amoedo if you arrive late.

BLOCO DO CARIOCA DA GEMA
They had their first parade in 2007 and have been a great Carnival option since then. Be there at 16h at Rua do Lavradio. Singers from Lapa usually participate and chip in with good songs.

CÉU NA TERRA
This will be their second parade through the streets of Santa Teresa. They begin the party at 8h30 but if I were you, I´d be there earlier.

CORDÃO DA BOLA PRETA
It leaves Cinelândia around 9h. Be prepared to be hovered by a sea of joyful jesters, clowns and partiers that will sing and dance – all wearing their costumes *

DOIS PRA LÁ E DOIS PRA CÁ
The dancer Carlinhos de Jesus is the founder of this carnival parade. They gather as of two o´clock in the evening at the Casa de Dança Carlinhos de Jesus. (Rua Álvaro Ramos, 11, Botafogo).

SUNDAY, 14/02

BANGALAFUMENGA
It does get crowded, but those that get close say it is worth it. At four in the evening they all gather at Rua Pacheco Leão near to Clube Condomínio, at Jardim Botânico. Its a mix of Funk, Samba, MPB, Maracatu and other types of music.

CORDÃO DO BOITATÁ
Attention to all: this parade is the best! They gather at Praça XV at nine in the morning for a beautiful parade. Get there at eight and watch them leave Arco do Teles and head towards Praça XV. Be sure to wear a nice costume and have fun amongst true merry partiers.

SIMPATIA É QUASE AMOR
The cluster of partiers leave Praça General Osório in Ipanema around 16h. Due to the huge amount of people they have left ealier than the scheduled time. Mind your wallets and cellphones for many do get mugged.

EMPOLGA ÀS 9
They parade through the sands of Ipanema, at Posto 9 and captivate many partiers as they go. It does get crowded, it starts at 21h and it is surely fun.

QUE MERDA É ESSA?
This parade met used to meet up with the other parade Simpatia É Quase Amor, hence their name. They gather at 14h at the corner of Rua Garcia D’Ávila and Nascimento Silva, at Ipanema.

MONDAY, 15/02

BLOCO CORRE ATRÁS
They parade every year on Mondays and they gather at 12h at Bar Azeitona e Cia, at Leblon, at Dias Ferreira.

BLOCO DE SEGUNDAS
Its one of the eldest carnival parades in Rio. It used to be the only option for fun on Carnival Mondays. It gathers at 16h at Cobal do Humaitá and is known for its traditional and familiar ambiance.

PEDE PASSAGEM
It leaves Jóquei da Gávea and góes around the Praça Santos Dumont. They gather at 14h and do not have a scheduled time for leaving Jóquei. Its a small parade, but a very pleasant one.

VOLTA ALICE
They gather around three in the afternoon around the small square that is located in fron of the bar Tasca do Edgar, in Rua Alice at Laranjeiras. They have not yet scheduled their departure but it usually leaves around 16h.

TUESDAY, 16/01

A ROCHA
It was created by college students from PUC that used to play around the Villa inside PUC. It begins at Praça Santos Dumont, in Gávea, and heads towards
the Planetary.

BLOCO DA ANSIEDADE
Its a frevo parade block that leaves the mercadinho São José in Laranjeiras around 16h. They have giant puppets parading around along with dancers.
They bunch up at 15h and leave at 18h heading through Rua Gago Coutinho until they arrive Largo do Machado.

BLCO DAS CARMELITAS
They leave Largo dos Guimarães in Santa Teresa, and head back to Curvelo, where it left on Friday. They do not reveal their scheduled time for departure. Traditionally they used to gather around at 18h, but lately they have been parading in the morning.

CLUBE DO SAMBA
If it midday and you are close by to a subway station, head towards the Siqueira Campos Station. The carnival block founded by João Nogueira gathers around the córner of Santa Clara and Av. Atlântica at 14h.

ESCANGALHA
They gather between the two public schools down in the Praça Santos Dumont at Gávea and head through Rua Major Rubens Vaz. Last year the gathering was scheduled for 14h and they left around 15h30.m.

WEDNESDAY, 17/02

ME BEIJA QUE EU SOU CINEASTA
Filmmakers and the regular partiers bunch up at 8h at Baixo Gávea. They hang around and have the traditional dip at the fountain. They party around as of 12h.

SATURDAY, 20/02

BATUCADA DO MULHERES DE CHICO
It will begin at Praça Antero de Quental in Leblon at 16hrs
