Búzios
is the St. Tropez of South America, without the snobbery.
Between December and March you can find the trendy 30 somethings,
as well as the young crowd, mostly partiers and surfers.
It has a complete tourist infrastructure that lets you stay
a week without getting bored. It is a claw shaped peninsula,
with about 27 beaches.
Reservations are recommended for the week around X-mas, New
Year and Carnival. Otherwise, finding a place to stay won’t
be hard, as it accommodates thousands of people during high
season. Look for a pousada at Geribá (the coolest beach
and where you will be spending your daytime) or downtown close
to “Rua das Pedras” (Centro) where you will be
spending your nighttime. Other areas will be out of the way
and not worth the savings.
To get to Búzios, take the 1001 bus from the Novo Rio
Bus Station, which takes 3 hours. Or you can hire a car service
for speed and comfort. Once there, you can rent a dune buggy
or a car. Other good dates to go are during national holidays,
should they land on a weekday,
as everyone in Rio uses a sick day and makes it a 4-day weekend.
